"Since nearly a month I arrived to Santarem and it's being an amazing experience from the first day. Every day here is different and full of expectations. Day after day I learn something new about the city, the people, what know when I am faced with an unfamiliar situation and meet a difference place.

My host family is very friendly, I feel comfortable at home. The customs are the same as in my country. The main difference is in the diet. Here, all the people eat too much !!! And the flavors are well defined, very sweet or too salty. Anyway, everything I've tried here is very tasty. In this region of Brazil there are many fruits. I've tried more than ten new fruits. Also i tried typical food as tacacá, vatapá, brigadeiro, farofa, farofa de piracuí, tapioca, mandioca and regional fishes. All was very tasty.

Also, I met amazing people from other countries. I think the best part of the experience is the cultural exchange between all the group of trainees. Although many speak Spanish, there are words and expressions that are very different and surprise us. I know many countries simply talking with them.

I am working in Pastoral do Menor NGO. It is an NGO that focuses on disadvantaged children. At first, my job would be only with marketing, but i also had teach mathematics to the children and i have spent time with them. I loved having the opportunity to do that too.

Finally, I have met very nice places. Alter de Chão is a wonderful beach near the city."

Hey you,

Malen is a trainee from Argentina that is developing a project about Marketing in a NGO called "Pastoral do Menor". See what she wrote to us:

"My experience working in Santarém Smarketing project is being completely different from what I imagined , but fortunately much more satisfying . Working in Pastoral do Menor is still amazing . The staff is very friendly and children are simply beautiful . I was lucky enough to share time with everyone and be very well received by all. Definitely my head is changing for the better."

She is helping the NGO in the Social Medias and in a Campaign to receive donates of school supplies to the children.

Spencer, a guy from Canada, lived an amazing experience here in Santarém. He come here by a NGO called AIESEC. Want to know more about his experience here? Watch the video:

Hello,

Ivana came to Santarém in July of 2014, and did an amazing work in an NGO called Enactus. See what she wrote:

I was working with Spencer (a crazy boy from Canada – will miss you! And see you in Prague in two years! J) for the local NGO called ENACTUS. The students of UFOPA University work for ENACTUS. They won the 4th place in the competition between the offices of Enactus in Brazil in July. They do a lot of projects (for example THIS one). We’ve chosen the one with the kindergarten, Seara. This place is unique because there are children who have problems with nutrition. Seara isn’t only a kindergarten but also has a bakery and a place where Multimistura is made. Multimistura is a nutritional supplement for these children and is made here from the local products – leaves of moringa tree, sesame and rice. So it’s a good-quality BIO product J. The problem is that a lot of people buy expensive products by Nestlé etc. So our marketing aims were – to boost awareness about Seara and Multimistura, to change a logo and label of Multimistura and to make a motion to improve the webside and social media. The finale of our work was an event at which we talked with some journalist about the making of Multimistura and two local televisions also arrived to report on the story. I haven’t found the links for these reports so you have only the pictures below.

So that’s it. In a nutshell. My exchange already finished. I am really glad to be here. It taught me a lot – especially patience and I’ve realized the value of time.

Now I am free to travelling. I am not sure about next posts as I am not sure about internet during the next month. But I will try cause our experiences will be legen….dary – no doubts!J

Thank you for your reading during the last 7 weeks. J
